Welcome

Hello and welcome to my first blog post. My name is Dennis Kane and I am a registered nurse certified in clinical hypnotherapy. I have been a hypnotherapist for over 25 years and have worked with a large number of clients for various conditions such as pain, addiction, anxiety, stress management, phobias and many, many more. I am currently writing a book about pain and pain management and from time to time I will be posting on this site about various hypnotic techniques. I welcome your comments and your questions.

What is hypnosis?

What is hypnosis? To begin with, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. It is not something that I do to you, it is something that I do with you. It is a trance state that is very natural and very pleasant. We have all experienced this state in one form or another. For instance, have you ever gotten in your car and driven to some familiar place like work or school and when you got there you couldn’t remember the drive? This is all because your subconscious mind already knew the way to work or school and your subconscious mind is where our habits are stored—the things that we do without thinking about them. Our subconscious mind takes in everything as real. We have all seen stage hypnosis…  hypnotizing people into believing that they are singing or dancing or various animals. They are able to do this because they are dealing directly with that person’s subconscious mind. I will mention here that if those people did not want to do those things they wouldn’t. You cannot be made to do anything that you do not want to do when you are hypnotized. What hypnosis does is it expands the filter in our brain that lies between our conscious, rational brain and allows us to go directly to the subconscious part of our brain where we can learn to eliminate bad habits, control anxiety and phobias, reduce or eliminate pain, and many other areas of our lives that we may feel powerless over.

The benefits of doing hypnotherapy with a me, a licensed certified healthcare professional, are many. First of all, a license by the state means that I am a professional, they I have passed a rigorous examination and I am required by law to adhere to a set of professional standards so that you can feel safe and know that you are working with a competent professional. Secondly, the certification means that in addition to the training and testing that I have gone through to receive my license. I have had additional training and have taken additional exams to receive my certification.

I have been a registered nurse for over 30 years and a certified clinical hypnotherapist for over 25 years. I have worked successfully with pain patients, patients with addictions (such as drugs, alcohol and smoking), PTSD, anxiety and phobias, as well as various other conditions. When working with clients in my office or in their homes via skype, I provide a warm, friendly environment in which you can feel safe, comfortable and relaxed and therefore receive the maximum benefit from your hypnosis experience.
